Functional Medicine is a subspecialty of healthcare that deals with finding the root cause for your health issue and optimizing your organ systems for healthy aging.
Functional Medicine doctors receive specialized post-doctoral training to look deeper into issues that typical medical tests do not address.
Cases our team has had success with:
- Digestive Issues
- Fatigue
- Chronic Pain
- Natural Options for Blood Sugar Management
- Heart Health and Prevention
- Brain Fog
- Natural Solutions for Pain
- Migraines
- Hormonal Issues
What is entailed in a Functional Medicine visit?
Functional medicine seeks to find the root cause of your issue, which is linked to several systems in your body all creating imbalance at once.
A visit consists of:
-A full intake & health history
-analysis of previous tests you’ve had done
-Diet analysis
-Recommendation for future tests and therapies that may help
-Game Plan for nutritional changes, supplements and holistic therapies.
The First Visit is one hour. Cost $300.
This includes:
- Detective work by Dr. Day and a full written report done ahead of your first visit.
- A 45 minute appointment where we go over a plan of action related to all bloodwork and forms you have filled out.
Why we are different:
Who we have trained with:
Dr. Day was able to train with the Founders of the Field while he spent his first 12 years in study and practice in California. He has received trainings by Dr. Bland, Hyman, Kharrazian, Rakowski, and many more.
His own experience with Chronic Fatigue helped him learn to do a vast array of tests and which supplements helped him detoxify, repair the gut, heal the brain, and reset the stress system without having a healing crisis that was not sustainable.
Our cost to value ratio:
Many local doctors want to charge thousands to get started and have you commit to the “full plan” from the get go. We want you to build trust, and invest a more reasonable amount to see if we can help you.
Paced at your Comfort Level:
Some of our patients are ready to order all testing, and jump into each phase of healing ahead of time. Some patients want to only meetup every couple of months for guidance. We want to meet you where you are.
Low Entry level cost for all budgets:
Although $300 seems high. Between the research, report writing and new patient visit and supplement recommendations.
Functional Medicine and the Functional approach takes into account your different systems all interrelate with each other.
Here are some common systems and functions we analyze:
- The ability to assimilate and digest your food and absorb nutrients. This can be tested by common bloodwork or more advanced nutritional testing.
- The ability to manage blood sugar. This can be tested with bloodwork and a health history.
- The levels of inflammation in the body. This can be studied in the health history, symptoms, bloodwork, and through advanced testing such as stool testing.
- Hormone imbalance. The hormones are often imbalanced from chronic stressors and we can see imbalances on blood and saliva testing.
- Detoxification. Testing for heavy metals and a health history are both ways in which to explore yoru bodies ability to detoxify.
- Microbial and Gut Balance: Intestinal Permeability or “leaky gut” is a common issue, as well as small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, diminished beneficial bacteria and chronic infections.
- These can be deciphered through different forms of testing of the stool, breath, and with a health history.
- Adrenal fatigue and brain function: Stress and inflammation can wreak havoc on the brain and the stress system known as the “Hypo-pituitary adrenal axis.” Known by laypersons as adrenal fatigue.
- Saliva testing and urinary testing are options for testing function.
- The physical, structural, fascial system: Joint imbalance, fascial issues, breathing dysfunction and loss of strength all can interrelate with chronic pain stressing out the brain, chronic inflammation and inactivity.
- Lifestyle imbalance: Too much sugar, not enough of any micro or macronutrient, and too little rest and relax time are very simple changes that can often be the hardest for the modern patient to implement. These are the foundations of Functional Medicine.
This was titled the “Functional Medicine matrix” See the tree below and how all systems work together for your health.
What makes the Functional approach different is there is no Magic Bullet. You have to make changes within all of the systems that are found to be dysfunctional to create a synergistic healing effect.
The patient must change their lifestyle as the doctor guides them into new ways of eating, moving, and dealing with stress.
What we will need before your first visit:
1.) All pertinent tests emailed to mountainmovementgvl@gmail.com
2.) Your health history filled out so Dr. Day can review prior to your visit.
3.) A 3 day food diary.
4.) A list of current supplements and medications.
5.) A readiness to implement changes in the way you eat, move and “do life.”
The first visit is 45 minutes and follow ups are 30 minutes. We believe a Functional Doctor should spend the time with each patient to work with them on troubleshooting the multiple facets associated with healing.
